What started as a simple act of friendship quickly became a labor of love. Commemorate a legacy of hard work and an open heart. Help us continue to provide nutrition for all by making a donation today.

In 1988, Michael Edwards and a small group of friends reached out to neighbors dying from HIV/AIDS, disenfranchised by the community and too sick to prepare their own meals.

They offered more than a meal. They offered friendship, love and dignity.

30 years later, we continue in Michael’s footsteps. Amplifying the impact of his work by providing food as medicine in more at-risk communities than ever thanks to dedicated volunteers and donors like you who have supported Open Hand Atlanta through the years.

Open Hand delivers love, dignity and nutrition to neighbors in need in Atlanta and throughout Georgia. Since 1988, we have provided delicious, medically tailored meals and nutrition education to thousands of people who are home-bound or unable to cook for themselves. We’re honored to serve seniors, children and families, and our neighbors who are at risk for or have a disability or medical illness.
