Open Hand Atlanta's mission simply states: "We cook. We deliver. We teach. We Care".
For over 3 decades, Open Hand has been serving food-insecure, low-income, and chronically ill individuals by providing access to nutritious, health-promoting meals at no cost to the recipient. Of those Open Hand serves, 99.7% are low-income and live at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. While this year has been challenging for us all, it has been especially difficult for those who suffered from food-insecurity, underlying health conditions and poverty before this pandemic even began. In a typical year, Open Hand produces 5,000 meals per day to serve these vulnerable individuals and families throughout the community. However, due to the drastically increased demand for their services in 2020, Open Hand has stepped up to serve over 68 counties throughout the state of Georgia by producing 6,200 meals per day to ensure that no client goes without a nutritious meal.
Every day Open Hand Atlanta fulfills the most basic need for thousands of low-income, chronically ill individuals.
