To help deal with the interruption to our regular services due to COVID-19 and to meet increased demand as a result of this crisis, we are ramping up the production of our shelf stable and frozen meals. We will be delivering larger quantities of these meals to clients to ensure they don’t go without in the event that Open Hand could not operate as normal. We have an obligation to be prepared for worst case scenarios. Ramping up production in this manner results in increased expenses such as overtime labor and the rental of a large, commercial freezer truck to store the additional frozen meals that are being produced. Additionally, as food supplies are in high demand during this crisis and distributors have lower inventory, we are experiencing sharp increases in food cost.
All of these things of course mean additional, unforeseen and unbudgeted costs incurred for Open Hand. Your donation will go a long way in alleviating the immediate burden of these increased costs and ensure that there is much less chance of disruption in our service. Our priority is the health and safety of our clients and making sure that they have what they need to make it through the coming weeks.
