It’s never too late to become more aware, more actionable or more giving. Learning that up to 40% of youth experiencing homelessness are LGBTQ, I realized that I had to do something to help. So in 2019, I attended a volunteer session at Lost-n-Found Youth to see what I could do. Among the various basic needs of life…these kids need to eat. Lightbulb. I had been volunteering for almost 10 years at Open Hand, a non-profit organization that delivers more than 5,000 healthy, nutritious meals daily to people living with chronic illnesses. So developing a program to utilize the mission of one organization to serve another became my vision. And so, I am championing the alignment of these two amazing Atlanta organizations.
The goal is to raise funds to cover the expense of providing lunch and dinner once a week for the ten LGBTQ homeless youth residing at the Lost-n-Found Youth center. This will be an ongoing effort with a minimum annual goal of $5,000.
In addition to donations made directly to this page, I will be hosting, cooking and covering the expense of monthly Sunday dinners for six to eight people with a per person fee. The total funds raised on this page and during the dinners will go towards the overall annual goal. All contributions no matter how small, or large for that matter, are greatly appreciated.
